Studio Cranham. 2007

My early education at Art college and University, 1967 - 1974, prepared me for a career in Further Education lecturing in Fine Art Painting at Foundation and Access level, in London, Lancashire and Gloucestershire. After almost 30 years I have now retired to concentrate on painting and printmaking. I maintain a studio in my home at Cranham.

In common with most creative people I am influenced by many artists, writers and musicians and I have exhibited widely throughout the UK and abroad.

I paint on Saunders 'Waterford' 300lb not / rough paper A1- 22x30ln. Using chinese goat hair brushes, the paper is prepared with a combination of acrylic texture paste, wax, tempera whcic is sometimes distressed after application. I also draw inti the wet surface with pen or knife. The  preparation before painting is sometimes a long process but necessary to get the right image. I have been known to remove paint after completion with water and sponge, sometimes in conjunction with a hair dryer.

All these processes  enble me maintain some  control over  the image but at the  same time I  have to be  sensitive to the way the  paint moves, and to the fact that it sometimes takes over.

Digitally enhanced images.

As an artist I realise the wider appeal of the smaller individually produced and more accessable print and I accept modern art technology and try to make full use of digital photography, and the wonders of Photoshop. The images I use are taken from my watercolour landscape paintings, scanned in and manipulated with PhotoshopCS.

They are printed on A4 Epson Archive Matte 192gm paper with an Epson D120 printer using Durabrite Pigment Inks which are water and fade proof.

Each print is within an A4 mount, numbered, named, signed and dated and limited to an edition of 200.

Each print image will be approx 5.25in x 7in  on an A4 sheet of Epson Archive 192gm paper.
